Get ready for Rodeo!

iMay 26, 2016

Yes, the annual kick-off to summer is here. Rodeo Week is an exciting time in Brooks as we celebrate this amazing tradition.

There’s a free pancake breakfast every morning of Rodeo Week (June 6-11) at several local businesses, which is a great way to meet with friends before going to work.

On June 11, the Rodeo Parade meanders the streets of Brooks. This year, there is a new parade route in order to avoid the construction taking place. The new route is as follows: it will start at the Kinsmen Hall on the Old Rodeo Grounds and travel west on 1 Ave. W. towards City Hall. The route turns north on 1 St. W up to 4 Ave. W. by the Lakeside Leisure Centre, then turns east on 4 Ave. W. towards the Brooks Composite High School. The route takes a short jag on 6 St. E. and on to 2 Ave. E heading east, then south onto 7 St. E. to return to the Old Rodeo Grounds. Sounds confusing? There’s a map available at www.brookskinsmen.ca under the Rodeo Parade Info tab.

Now, the rodeo itself (formally known as the Brooks Exhibition & Stampede) takes place June 10 and 11 at the Silver Sage Agribition Park just south of Brooks. Along with the main events of the Brooks Pro Rodeo, you can also take in the midway and food vendors.

Rodeo is a large part of culture in Western Canada, and we are very lucky in Brooks to be right in the middle of this way of life.
